I struggle with Memorial Day.

I struggle with the fact that it has become a day of celebration instead of a day of mourning that people had to die.

I struggle with the fact that it has become a banner holiday for toxic patriotism and nationalism.

I struggle, not with the intent of the day itself, but rather with all those who have been left out. Those who have died to "protect our freedoms".
